ActivTrax is a system that offers members personalized workouts on the machines in the Cardiovascular and Selectorized Rooms. Based on your personal workout preferences, goals and exercise experience, ActivTrax will provide workouts to get you where you want to go. First, our fitness staff will conduct an initial one-hour evaluation of your fitness level and fitness goals. With that information, ActivTrax will guide you through a series of customized workouts. This is for members who have completed the initial ActivTrax evaluation and would like a refresher on how to use the system. A fitness supervisor will review how to log into the system, print out workouts, make changes to workouts and make your workouts more efficient. We will also take you through one of your own ActivTrax workouts. The session lasts 30 minutes. Join us for this group exercise class that is specially designed to ease the transition from physical therapy back to regular exercise. Once you have been released by your physical therapist, EBC fitness specialist and personal trainer Noby Takaki and physical therapist Erin Weinhardt, DPT will guide you through weekly workouts to prevent re-injury. This eight-week program consists of military-style, interval-training classes that combine the expertise and benefits of one-on-one personal training with working out in a group setting. The fast-paced classes incorporate calisthenics such as sit-ups, push-ups and running to use the body’s own weight in creating resistance. The program is led by EBC personal trainers, who use a periodized, or progressive, approach that includes fitness tests such as timed miles, push-ups, sit-ups/crunches and sprints. Get in shape and have fun with this novice-level training group to prepare for the Bastille Day 5K on Thursday, July 12, in Lincoln Park. The workouts will include running and walking on the track, and strength-training work in Studio 2. No previous race experience is necessary. Developed in India and Thailand, Thai Bodywork is an ancient form of bodywork in which the practitioner uses different body parts (thumbs, hands, elbows, knees, feet, etc.) to apply pressure along the energy lines of the body known as the meridians. This stimulation releases blocked energy, often the cause of lethargy, aches, and pains. Thai Bodywork also uses gentle stretching movements, similar to light yoga asanas, which facilitate the flow of energy throughout the body as well as increase flexibility. By physically manipulating muscles and connective tissue, Thai Bodywork creates a dynamic, restorative and healing experience of body and mind.
