Our Club Guidelines are designed to protect members' privacy, maintain the Club's congenial and pleasant environment, and ensure that everyone enjoys their time at the Club.

Club Guidelines

The East Bank Club is a private health and social club and therefore membership to the Club is a privilege. East Bank Club members as well as their family members and guests must comply with the East Bank Club Code of Conduct at all times while present on the premise or actively associated with the Club. East Bank Club premise includes without limitation, all Club facilities, spa, salon, pools, sundeck, studios, exterior common areas and parking areas. East Bank Club’s Code of Conduct requires all Club members, family members and their guests to:

  • Comply with all Club Membership documents including Club Guidelines
  • Refrain from interfering with any of the business policies of the operation
  • Act in a friendly and civil manner
  • Treat others (including members, guests and staff) with dignity and respect
  • Resolve personal disputes away from East Bank Club and not involve the Club, our staff, or other members
  • Act in a manner befitting a member of a first-class, private club

The following actions are strictly prohibited and violation of any of the below may result in disciplinary action up to and including permanent membership revocation:

  • Verbal or physical harassment or threats
  • Violence of any kind
  • Use of membership card or digital entry credential by anyone other than the member to whom they were issued.
  • Use of Club membership for any political or solicitation purposes without executive management consent
  • Inappropriate language to other members, guests and employees
  • Inappropriate behavior as deemed by East Bank Club management to/with any other members, guest or employees
  • Inappropriate, explicit or offensive language on clothing, personal items, vehicles, or anything else that is visible to members, as deemed by East Bank Club management
  • The presence of firearms or weapons of any kind unless needed for duty of service
  • Smoking cigarettes or vaping of any kind
  • Reckless damage to facility, interior or exterior
  • Initiating any type of petition or soliciting other members or staff regarding facilities, programs, policies, and/or staffing

Please Note: East Bank Club’s Code of Conduct may change at the discretion of East Bank Club’s management.

Bicycle racks are located along the east side of the building. We recommend that you secure your tires and frame with a u-shaped Kryptonite lock. A camera is in place to help discourage thieves. The Club does not assume responsibility for damaged or stolen bicycles. Paid valet bike parking is available in the Valet Lot across Kingsbury Street from the Club. Bicycles are not allowed in the Club unless they are being used in a Performance Training class.

There is a 24-hour cancellation policy for all appointments, reservations and sessions. Appointments, reservations and sessions that have not been cancelled 24 hours or more in advance will be charged in full.

Memberships may be inactivated or placed on freeze as of the first of the month. To inactivate or freeze a membership, written notice and payment of dues and charges through the last day of the current month are required. Inactivated memberships cannot be reactivated for a minimum of nine months. Frozen memberships can be made for a minimum of three months at a nominal monthly fee. Members on freeze retain access to Group Exercise livestreamed classes and on-demand content. Upon reinstatement from the frozen membership, the reactivation fee is waived. In order to maintain the safety and comfort of all members and their guests, we reserve the right to cancel the membership of anyone who has acted inappropriately or has not complied with the Club’s guidelines or with the requests or direction of management. Possession of firearms and possession, sale, exchange or use of any unlawful controlled substance while at the Club are strictly prohibited.

Automatic Expulsion:  Any member of the Club who initiates legal proceedings against the Club or its equity interest owners may have their membership immediately terminated and may not be eligible for reinstatement. For purposes of this provision, “legal proceedings” includes but is not limited to (1) filing of a claim in any court of law, administrative board or tribunal, commission, administrative law judge, hearing office, or other body that conducts a civil legal or administrative proceeding, (2) initiating any form of binding dispute resolution, including arbitration, (3) filing an insurance claim against the Club, and/or (4) causing an insurance claim to be filed against the Club by any third-party.

 

For your protection, we recommend an initial orientation with our staff to become familiar with the equipment. In addition, floor trainers are available to help you use the equipment in a safe and effective manner.

Please comply with the following guidelines when using the Cardiovascular Room:

  • When others are waiting, please limit your time on a single piece of equipment to 30 minutes.
  • Food is prohibited.
  • Please use a water bottle for any beverage.
  • A shirt is required.
  • Shoes are not required in stretch areas in the Cardio Room.
  • Shoes are required when using any equipment in the Cardio Room.
  • Please wipe down equipment after each use.
  • Talking on a cell phone is not allowed in the Cardiovascular Room.
  • Please do not use a mobile device to text, email, etc. while using strength equipment

In the interest of safety and enjoyment for everyone, parents are responsible for the appropriate behavior of their children. Children must have their membership card each time they enter the Club. An adult must accompany children under 13. Please view our Children's Guidelines, listed below the main Club Guidelines, for more information.

The Coat Check is open daily from October through April. Non-perishable items can be checked for you or the person you designate. Strollers can be checked year round. When Coat Check is closed, an attendant at the Reception Desk can buzz you into Coat Check to drop off or pick up your stroller. The Club is not responsible for lost items or those left overnight.

We ask that all members and their guests wear proper attire:

  • Proper workout attire is required in all workout areas.
  • Tank tops and tees are to cover the entire chest and not show private areas.
  • T-shirts and other clothing with offensive language may not be worn.
  • Blue jeans and blue jean cut-offs may not be worn in workout areas or on the racquet courts. 
  • See-through apparel and torn clothing may not be worn.
  • Bottoms must cover the entirety of one's bottom while in the Club and workout areas (Sun Deck excluded). 
  • Shoes are required while walking through all areas of the Club except locker rooms, pools, and the Sun Deck, although footwear is always recommended. Shoes are not required in certain Group Exercise classes, on stretch mats, for certain private sessions, and for certain Spa and Salon services.
  • Shoes are not required in the Performance Center, Free Weight Room, and stretch areas in the Cardio Room.
  • We strongly advise that athletic shoes be worn while weightlifting and for other strength-training exercises.
  • Cover-ups and appropriate shoes are to be worn while walking throughout the Club, except in the stairway leading from the locker rooms to the fourth level pool.
  • For personal safety and health reasons, we suggest wearing shower shoes in the locker room.
  • Swim suits may only be worn at the pools and on the Sun Deck and should be conservatively appropriate to the character of the Club.
  • Appropriate swimwear is required in all pools and whirlpools.
  • Clothing should be dry when dining in The Grill.
  • Proper hygiene should be practiced daily.
  • Colognes, perfumes and other scents should be moderate and not impact other members.

Employees are chosen after a thorough interview process and reference check. While we do everything possible to choose the right person for each position, we cannot ensure perfection. Therefore, if at anytime you are disappointed with the level of service you have received, please speak to management regarding the problem, rather than addressing the employee directly. This will help us to provide the appropriate coaching, counseling and when necessary, progressive discipline. Positive comments, written or verbal, are shared with the staff and are very much appreciated by all.

Tipping is not expected in the checkroom or in any of the program or activity areas of the Club. However, it is anticipated that members will tip for services rendered in the restaurants and bars and for other special services.

Group exercise classes take place in our four exercise studios. Please comply with the following guidelines when using the studios:

  • Athletic shoes are required in all classes.
  • Weights are only permitted in classes when designated in the class description. The Club provides weights for these classes.
  • Members are allowed to workout in exercise studios when classes are not in session.
  • Food is prohibited in the exercise studios.
  • Please use a water bottle for any beverage.
  • Towels are allowed in the studios during classes, but for safety reasons we ask that you place them against the wall.
  • We ask that class participants arrive on time for class and remain in the class until it is over. If you must arrive late or leave early, please work out at the back of the studio, near the door.
  • Talking on a cell phone is not permitted in the Exercise Studios.

Should an emergency arise, dial “555” on any Club phone and explain the nature of the emergency. The operator will immediately notify the appropriate person(s) to assist you. Many of our staff members are certified in CPR, the use of defibrillators and first aid, and they can be in the area within minutes. The operator will call “911” if necessary.

Please comply with the following guidelines when using the Free Weight and Selectorized Rooms:

  • When others are waiting, please limit your time on a single piece of equipment to one set.
  • If you are engaged in a high-intensity workout, please use a spotter.
  • Please do not drop weights or slam weight stacks down.
  • Please replace all weights on the racks when you are finished using them.
  • Please allow others to work-in with you.
  • Food is prohibited.
  • Please use a water bottle for any beverage.
  • A shirt is required.
  • Shoes are required in the Selectorized Room.
  • Shoes are not required while doing exercises in the Free Weight Room and Performance Center.
  • Shoes are required when walking through all fitness areas, including the Free Weight Room and Performance Center.
  • We strongly advise that athletic shoes be worn while weightlifting and for other strength-training exercises.
  • Please wipe down equipment after each use.
  • Keep your speaking volume at a conversational level when talking on your phone.
  • Do not occupy strength equipment when using your mobile device to text, email, go online, etc.

Freelance training is not permitted in any area of the Club.

Please comply with the following guidelines when using the Golf Center:

  • Use designated tee areas only and stay behind the white line.
  • Chipping into the putting green is not allowed.
  • There is a limit of one bucket of balls when others are waiting.
  • Food is prohibited.
  • Please use a water bottle for any beverage.

We invite you to share the Club with your friends, family and business associates. Passes are available for daily Club use, dining in the Grill or on the Sun Deck, touring the Club, and more.

Please comply with the following guidelines when using the Gymnasium:

  • Hanging on the rim is not allowed.
  • Shoes that may scuff the court surface are prohibited.
  • A shirt and shoes must be worn at all times.
  • Please return all balls to the ball rack after use.
  • Food is prohibited.
  • Please use a water bottle for any beverage.
  • Please sign in with the Gymnasium Supervisor if you wish to play in an Open Play game.

East Bank Club is committed to maintaining a work environment that is free from discrimination. In keeping with this commitment, we will not tolerate any type of harassment of Club employees by anyone, including any supervisor, co-worker, vendor, client, member or guest of the Club, or any third party.

Please comply with the following guidelines when using the Indoor Cycling Studio:

  • In consideration of other members, we ask that you do not save bikes.
  • Indoor Cycling is a high intensity workout that is not recommended for those with heart conditions or women who are pregnant. Please consult your physician before beginning any exercise program.
  • If you are new to Indoor Cycling, please arrive 10 minutes before the class starts and inform the instructor that you are a first-time participant.
  • Out of consideration for other class participants, we do not admit those who arrive after the start of class.
  • We ask that you participate in the entire class. If it is absolutely necessary to leave before the end of the class, please use a bike at the rear of the studio.
  • To make everyone’s ride more enjoyable, we ask that you refrain from excess talking during class.
  • Food is prohibited.
  • A towel and water bottle are highly recommended. Cups are not permitted in class.
  • Talking on a cell phone is not allowed in the Indoor Cycling Studio.

The Kinzie Room is a quiet area for reading and relaxing. It is located at the back end of the Grill. For more information about the Kinzie Room, click here. Meetings and cell phone use are prohibited.

For the safekeeping of your valuables, we encourage you to use the complimentary security lock boxes located in both locker rooms.

Please comply with the following rules in the locker rooms:

  • Daily change lockers may be used only when you are in the Club.
  • Swimsuits and workout clothes may not be hung on the exterior of a locker.
  • Food and beverages are not permitted in the locker rooms.
  • Hair products for bleaching or dying may not be used.
  • Cell phone use is not allowed in the locker rooms.

If you find a lost item, please bring it to the Member Services office. If you lose something, stop in the Member Services office to see if it has been turned in. Because so many items are similar, we cannot positively identify them over the telephone. If identification is attached to an item, we will do our best to contact the owner.

Valuable items such as jewelry, computers and phones are held for 30 days. Less valuable items such as racquets and shoes are held for two weeks. Non-valuable items are held for one week. After this period, items are donated to charity.

The Club is not responsible for lost items.

Please present your membership card or the barcode provided by our app whenever you enter the Club, when registering guests, for parking validation, and when making purchases within the Club.

In the event of a lost membership card, please download our app for access, as physical membership ID cards are no longer reissued.

Membership cards, membership barcodes, and parking QR codes should not be shared with or used by anyone other than the individual to whom it was originally issued. Any misrepresentation or misuse may lead to the cancellation of membership.

These guidelines are in place to provide members with a congenial environment and to protect members' privacy.

General Code of Conduct:

  • Photography and video are not permitted.
  • Video conferencing is not permitted.
  • Refrain from occupying strength equipment and stretching mats while checking your phone.
  • Keep your speaking volume at a conversational level when talking on your phone.
  • Refrain from using speaker phone.
  • Always use earbuds or headphones when listening to music.
  • Refrain from using common spaces to work on a computer for an extended period of time.

Device-Free Zones
The following areas are designated as Device-Free Zones, where we ask that members refrain from using phones, tablets and laptops. If you need to take an emergency phone call, we ask that you leave the area as quickly as possible.

  • Locker Rooms (not including TV lounges)
  • Stairwells
  • Spa for Women and Spa for Men

Parking is not allowed in the Club’s main driveway and entrance, at the corner of Kingsbury and Kinzie. This area is to be used only for entering the garage and picking up and dropping off passengers. For information about parking options at the Club, visit the Parking section of the website.

Photography and filming of any sort are not allowed in the Club or on Club property unless approved by a Club manager.

Please comply with the following guidelines when using the pools:

  • The First Level Pool is for lap swimming and classes only.
  • Please limit your workout to 30 minutes when others are waiting.
  • In accordance with Illinois State Law, please shower before entering the pool.
  • Please wear cover-ups and shoes when coming to and from the pool.
  • Appropriate swimwear is required in all pools and whirlpools.
  • Bathing caps are required for those with long hair.
  • Please do not use mobile devices in the pool areas.
  • The following is not permitted: 
    Running 
    Diving 
    Street shoes 
    Food and gum 
    Glass containers

Please comply with the following guidelines when using the racquetball and squash courts:

  • Please wear eye guards at all times.
  • Do not wear black-soled shoes.
  • Always knock before entering a racquetball or squash court.
  • Food is prohibited.
  • Please use a water bottle for any beverage.

Please comply with the following guidelines when using a sauna, steam room or whirlpool:

  • Older adults, pregnant women, those using prescription medications, and those suffering from heart disease, diabetes or high blood pressure should consult a physician before using the sauna, steam room or whirlpool.
  • Anyone who has been drinking alcohol or using drugs may not use the sauna, steam room or whirlpool.
  • Do not spend more than 10 minutes in the sauna, steam room or whirlpool in one session.
  • Clothing and may not be left in the sauna to dry.
  • Sneakers and other outdoor shoes are not permitted in these areas. Shower shoes are permitted.
  • Shaving and other personal hygiene are not permitted in these areas.
  • The use of mobile devices and laptop computers is strictly prohibited in these areas.
  • Towels may not be placed under sauna doors.
  • Respect others' privacy and maintain a quiet and peaceful atmosphere in these areas.

Smoking (including vaping) is not permitted in the Club or on Club property.

It is prohibited to circulate any subscription list, place any advertisement or exhibit any article for sale in the Club. Announcements or posters may not be circulated or placed anywhere in the Club without the consent of management.

  • Music volume must be at a level that cannot be heard by others.
  • Children under 13 must be supervised at all times.
  • Only brown towels are permitted.
  • Deposit towels in receptacles provided.
  • Only food purchased at East Bank Club is permitted.
  • It is not allowed to bring alcohol onto the Sun Deck. Only alcohol purchased at the Sun Deck Cafe and Pool Bar is allowed.
  • Smoking and vaping are not permitted.
  • It is not permitted to reserve lounge chairs.
  • The North Outdoor Pool and Pool Bar areas are for adults 18 years of age and older only.
  • Glass containers are not permitted.
  • Fire exits are for emergency use only.

Please comply with the following guidelines when using the tennis courts:

  • Check in at the Reservation Desk before using a tennis court.
  • Do not hit the tennis curtains.
  • Food is prohibited.
  • Please use a water bottle for any beverage.

The Club uses different towels for different purposes. Tan towels, which are resistant to discoloration from oils and lotions, are used on the Sun Deck and outdoor pools. Small white towels, for use when exercising, are available in the Cardiovascular Room, at the Track and in other workout areas. Large white towels are available at the indoor pools and in the locker rooms. Please use as many as you need, then deposit them in the appropriate containers.

Children's Guidelines

We are pleased to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for families with children, while respecting and preserving the adult character of the Club.  With this in mind, parents and caretakers are responsible for the supervision and appropriate behavior of their children at all times in all areas of the Club.

Please be reminded:

  • Children under the age of 13 must be with a parent or other responsible person 18 years of age or older at all times, unless in a supervised program.
  • Unattended children ages 13 and over must behave responsibly while in the Club.
  • Guests under the age of five are allowed only in the Children's Activity Center, and reservations are required.
  • Members ages 17 and under may bring up to five guests ages 18 and older. Children under the age of 5 are not permitted to bring guests to the Club.
  • Members ages 18 and older may arrange a Tour, Grill or Sun Deck Cafe pass for up to five guests. For Tour and Sun Deck Cafe passes, guests must be 13 or older; for Grill passes, guests can be any age. Guests must remain with the member at all times.
  • Membership cards must be presented when entering the Club.
  • Please note: holiday hours apply on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Seating is limited to the area north of the second atrium for children under 10. Children 10 and up may sit in the center section. Children under 16 must be supervised at all times. Children under 21 are not permitted in the bar area.

Children ages 5 to 12 are only permitted for Club programs and/or under personal training supervision.
Children ages 10 to 12 may use the Track with a parent or guardian after 1 p.m. on weekends only, and children need to run alongside their parent or guardian at all times.

Ages 13 - 15
Children ages 13 to 15 must have received a Teen Fitness Certification to use these areas at any time. For more information or to schedule a teen certification, contact the Fitness Department at (312) 527-5800, extension 451, or fitnessprograms@eastbankclub.com. The teen certification is done as one training session with a personal trainer or a master trainer. Regular training fees apply.

Adults have priority.

Ages 0 - 12
Children 12 and under may use the perimeter baskets on the southeast court with adult supervision.

Ages 13 - 15
The Gymnasium is available for children ages 13 to 15. During adult open play, children ages 13 to 15 must play on the west court.

Adults have priority. Children under 13 must be under adult supervision.

Ages 0 - 4
Not permitted

Ages 5 - 12
Children 5 to 12 must be supervised by an adult.
Children ages 8 to 15 who have a lesson or class, or who have received the Junior Golf Certification, are permitted in this area. For more information or to schedule a junior certification, contact the Golf Department at (312) 527-5800, extension 405.
